Today’s Horoscope
It’s Friday already, another week in the books. In fact, it’s already February, and seems like the holidays were just yesterday.
Life speeds you along, and the older you get, the faster it seems to go. One reason might be that when you’re younger, you are anticipating so much, and the wait is excruciating sometimes. You want to be old enough to stay up later, to be a teenager, to get your first kiss or driver’s license. To graduate, to drink, to vote, to get married, to have kids. Your whole life is in front of you, and you are experiencing it based on signposts in the distance.
When you get older, some of the things you have to look forward to can fill you with unease or dread. Your declining health, the loss of your parents or friends, due dates for bills, a million things you are not looking forward to experiencing. Of course, also your own mortality. For some reason, those things all kind of fly up on you, careening towards you at rocket speed.
Time seems to go faster when you’re older just because you have more responsibilities and worries. When you are younger, you daydream about wondrous things, lost in thought about what is possible. When you get older, you get lost in stress and anxiety, wondering how you are going to deal with some new thing you would rather just avoid all together.
So maybe the trick to feeling younger and slowing life down is to just learn to stop dreading the inevitable. Accept what’s coming, and live in the now. Envision a positive experience rather than focus on everything that can go wrong. Most of the worrying you do doesn’t change a thing at all once it arrives anyway.
The stars know that all that is easier said than done, but it can be done, and it would probably take a lot less effort than all the time and energy you put into worrying in the first place. We worry because we think that it gives us some sort of control, but that is an illusion, just like the passage of time.
