Today's Horoscope Wednesday night bonus
Sometimes the people you look up to let you down. We are warned constantly not to meet our heroes, and with good reason. Maybe we shouldn't have heroes, and people we idolize, but then, what's the point? Why live never thinking that there's something to aim for, an ideal that inspires us?
Maybe we expect too much from heroes, or maybe we ignore their flaws as we elevate them to that status based on one aspect of who they are. Maybe there is some middle ground, where imperfect humans and heroes meet.
But still, they will devastate us and break our hearts.
Perhaps our heroes should be the people we know. Maybe your parents can't put words together in a certain order to make you swoon, but they are there everyday doing their best. Maybe your friends and family aren't eloquent or onstage or world renowned athletes, but they take care of you when you're drunk, or make you laugh so hard you can't catch your breath. Maybe they are there when your heart breaks, and even though they can't express how you feel in a song, they are there while you cry, and they listen as you tell your stories to them in your own words.
Maybe your hero is you. Maybe you should remember that the hero in your story is the one that was always there. Your hero is the one that did all the heavy lifting, the one who kept your head above water, who led you out of the darkness countless times, who was even there when the people you thought were heroes ripped your life apart.
Maybe your hero is you.
