Every time you do the right thing, there is no guarantee that it will make your life better. Just as each time you make a bad choice, there is a good chance that it will have no repercussions, and you might actually profit from it.

You can be the best employee and still get laid off. You could be the most attentive and supportive lover and still have your heart ripped in two. You can eat right and exercise and still get stricken with disease or a faulty heart valve.

You could do everything right, and be the best person you possibly can, but that doesn't mean you will get rewarded for it. In many cases, it will seem like life will take a perverse joy in punishing you for it.

This arrangement might make you bitter, and cause you to wonder why you do it at all.

The stars want to remind you that you aren't supposed to do the right things because you expect a reward. You do the right things because they are right.

They also want to tell you that there is a reward, but often, you aren't the one that gets it. If you can be the one person that still does the right thing when no one else is, you stand a good chance of making a difference in someone else's life. You might not be around to see the fruits of that labor, but your example usually doesn't go unnoticed.

That choice you made might only make a tiny difference, but it could ripple out, and affect generations. It could change a tiny bit of the world.

There is a reward for you, too. You get to live knowing you didn't make things worse. It may have been a tough choice you made, but by making it, you showed respect to yourself. You gave yourself a little more self esteem, and you may have saved yourself a lot of angst, and some trouble down the road.

Rewards aren't always instantaneous, and they aren't always obvious.

And remember, you aren't even supposed to be looking for them in the first place.
