If you believe you are to blame, then you will spend your life blaming yourself. If you feel like you are a horrible person, then you will be that horrible person. If you truly think you are irredeemable, then that's what you will be. If you convince yourself that all hope is lost, then it is.
The opposite is also true.
In a perfect world, your family or friends or strangers or charlatans would not blame you, shame you, guilt you into believing the worst about yourself. In fact, there are many people who have lived their lives blanketed in love, taught to respect themselves, and if they make a mistake, they can make up for it.
If you are lucky enough to have been given a gift like that, to have been infused with self esteem, and to love yourself, to be instilled with understanding, and a good moral compass, you should cherish that. Don't take it for granted.
Just as importantly, don't hate or judge the unfortunate, the lost and broken people who never got that chance. Be kind, and if nothing else, simply show them that the world they were given is not the only one. Hating yourself and paying for the sins of others is not all there is to life.
The stars believe you can fix this world, one soul at a time, but you can't do it if you choose not to. Not just the people who are broken, but the ones who have the advantage. All of us.
All of us have to choose kindness and hope.
