Our instincts are to protect the innocent and the defenseless, like children or animals, yet we willfully attack those who we decide are not innocent, usually based on nothing. We judge and criticize, oftentimes when we have no clue about the situation we are coming into.
Don’t let anger, ignorance, your ego, or fear and insecurity make you lash out or join in the cruelty. Don’t cause further harm to someone who is already hurting. Don’t discount other’s fear or sadness. You don’t have to always offer your opinion when no one is asking. You don’t have to make things about you when someone is suffering.
Don’t make things worse. Be a protector.
