Today’s Horoscope

All Signs:
The stars think the cruelest trick the universe ever played is the human brain. While it is capable of so much, it is a dangerous and fragile tool. Most people think too much about things that don’t matter, and thoughtlessly blow past the things that do. They end up running in circles and fool themselves that they are getting somewhere, only to wind up in the exact same place.
Many of our actions are based on impulses and reactions left over from evolutionary traits we have long since lost the need to possess. Just when we need our intellect most, it deserts us and leaves us with reptilian fight or flight type of responses, or overrides our common sense to have us choose the wrong thing again for a small hit of dopamine.
One of the most amazing abilities our brain has is to adapt, yet it can’t seem to differentiate between what is healthy and what isn’t, so it is constantly adapting to things that hold us back and harm us. We punish ourselves because our brains tell us to, and they convince us that is the norm, so we keep doing it.
Most people in the world are using their brains without any proper training, or even an owners manual. Each brain is different, so a manual can’t even exist beyond the basics.
Still, most of us manage to eke out a living, procreate, and fill the time between birth and death with some joy, some accomplishment, and a whole lot of misery that we simultaneously create and pat ourselves on the back for living through.
Then the cruelest joke of all. Our brains start losing function. We become forgetful and easily confused. When we have finally figured out a lot of what life has been throwing at us, when we finally have the means and time to simply enjoy life, we start our decline. Worse yet, we could just lose everything in an instant, from disease or random blood clot, a chemical change in our physiology, or simply a hit on the head.
The stars marvel that we have a whole universe living in our heads, each and every one of us. We have possession of the most remarkable thing that has ever existed, the greatest supercomputer devised, yet it is swirling with so much fear and lies, distorted reality and ghosts, that we might as well have the brains of mice.
That’s the gist of it. Back and forth, round and round, ad infinitum. Our brains holding us back as much as they make us free; an eternal struggle as old as life itself. The best we can hope for is to be cognizant of it as it happens.
